Rennes 1, a university within various networks
Beside its close ties with its economic and social environment, the University of Rennes 1 belongs to several higher education and research networks. It also takes part in many great national and European research programs.
Université Européenne de Bretagne
Created in 2007, the Université Européenne de Bretagne is a PRES (pôle de recherche et d'enseignement supérieur), i.e. a research and higher education cluster. It unites the University of Rennes 1 with three other Breton universities, Grandes Écoles, the university hospitals of Rennes and Brest and research institutions and partners, in partnership with the local authority.
Université de Bretagne
Created in 2001, the Université de Bretagne is an association involving the four Breton universities (Université de Bretagne Occidentale, Université de Bretagne Sud, University of Rennes 1, Université Rennes 2 - Haute Bretagne), the IUFM de Bretagne (teacher training institute) and the Conférence des Directeurs des Grandes Écoles de Bretagne (association of the Breton Grandes Écoles).
This association encourages the development of common interest actions in all the fields of activity relating to the institutions' public-service missions as defined by law. The association also aims at promoting the image of the Breton higher education, particularly at an international level.
Common projects include: Candisup (higher education pre-enrollment application), the Breton digital university (UNRB, université numérique en région Bretagne), the regional observatory on higher education in Bretagne (Observatoire régional des enseignements supérieurs en Bretagne), communication actions, ...
Europôle universitaire de Rennes
Created in 2001, the Europôle universitaire de Rennes aims at organizing and promoting the international vocation of the Rennes basin, notably as regards the reception of foreign students, teachers and researchers. It also aims at encouraging the development of new education and research projects.
The University of Rennes 1 is deeply involved in the Europôle:
- 2 twinnings (University of Exeter, Great Britain and Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, Germany), 111 bilateral cooperation agreements with foreign universities and 205 Socrates-Erasmus bilateral agreements (Europe);
- an ever broader range of internationalized curricula;
- more than 2,300 foreign students welcomed every year;
- numerous student and researcher exchanges (courses, placements, double degrees, joint thesis supervision, visiting teachers, conferences, visits, european and international programs).
Réseau des Universités de l'Ouest Atlantique
Created in 1998, the Réseau des Universités de l'Ouest Atlantique (RUOA) is a inter-university cluster gathering the nine universities of the three cooperating regions: Bretagne, Pays-de-Loire and Poitou-Charentes (Université d'Angers, Université de Bretagne Occidentale, Université de Bretagne Sud, Université de La Rochelle, Université du Maine, Université de Nantes, Université de Poitiers, University of Rennes 1, Université Rennes 2 - Haute Bretagne).
The Presses Universitaires de Rennes (PUR, Rennes university press) are a good example of a unifying SAIC (research promotion department).
Training and research thematic networks
In addition to these networks, the University of Rennes 1 belongs to many training and research thematic networks, among which the pôle d'excellence Jean Monnet (European center of excellence) and the digital campuses.
