The European University EDUC (European Digital UniverCity)
The European dimension of the international policy of the University of Rennes 1, which is very pronounced in terms of student and staff mobility, has been strengthened with the success of the response to the first call for projects "European Universities" alongside partners in Germany (Potsdam), the Czech Republic (Brno), Hungary (Pècs) and Italy (Cagliari) and the University of Paris Nanterre. Student and staff mobility, whether physical, hybrid or virtual, is at the heart of the European Digital UniverCity (EDUC) alliance project. The development of integrated courses (European masters, double degrees) and the expansion to new fields of study also meet this objective.
Strengthened historical partnerships in China, America and Africa
In China, the opening of a Franco-Chinese Institute in 2018 will consolidate a 30-year collaboration with the Southeast University in Nanjing in the fields of signal and image processing, electronics, economic and financial engineering, chemistry and biomedicine.
In Brazil, multi-disciplinary collaborations have been built up over the years and will be strengthened within the framework of the CAPES Print call, in particular with the UFRGS (Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul).
In North America, exchanges with American universities have increased in part thanks to KA 107 funding and the development of double degrees. The very close partnerships with Quebec institutions, from the University of Quebec network, but also from Laval and INRS (in the fields of geosciences, environment and health), are continuing in training and research.
Strengthening partnerships in the French-speaking world
The University of Rennes 1 also wishes to pursue its commitment to the French-speaking area in Africa. Morocco hosts relocations in the field of economics and management. A project for a Miage degree, partly at a distance (eMiage centre), was recently completed with the Université Félix Houphouët-Boigny (UFHB), in Côte d'Ivoire, and is being developed towards a master's degree via funding from the French embassy (Hub - Côte d'Ivoire) obtained in 2019.
New areas of cooperation
Caucasus: The Georgian-French University and the French-Azerbaijani University
Since 2016, the University of Rennes 1 has been involved in the Caucasus, a strategic location for the new "Silk Roads" and a space of mobility extended to Iran. It is coordinating the creation of the Franco-Georgian University (UFG) with the opening of several courses in 2020, a master's degree in mathematics and a professional degree in dairy production, taught by teachers from the IUT of Saint-Brieuc. In addition to the UFG, the university is also involved in a KA108 consortium and MIC funding, bringing together 8 French institutions and 7 Georgian universities in order to strengthen mobility between the two countries.
The University also participates in the UFAZ (Franco-Azerbaijani University) with a pedagogical presence for 3 years in Baku which has resulted in the opening of a professional degree in September 2019 in the field of oil extraction and the creation of a master's degree in geoscience in connection with the professional degree.
Middle East: bilateral cooperation and participation in the reconstruction of the University of Mosul (Iraq)
The university is carrying out projects in Iran in the field of law, within the Tarbiat Modares University, and wishes to extend its activities in other disciplines. Similarly, as part of the reconstruction of the University of Mosul (Iraq), the university is receiving funding from the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs to train future e-learning instructors for this university and is also contributing to the development of its Faculty of Medicine.
In Russia, links are being strengthened with Lobachevsky University in Nijni-Novgorod in the Law and Economics and Management sectors. This deployment is in line with the objective of increasing the presence of the University of Rennes 1 in Siberia via an IRP in Chemistry supported by the CNRS, to which will be added in 2019 an IRP in Archaeology
Rennes 1 is finally consolidating its position in Australia. After the IRP international associated laboratory in photonics and electronics with the ANU, it is extending its cooperation with the universities of Adelaide in the framework of a decentralised cooperation between the Brittany region and South Australia; the major themes are related to fluoride glasses, cyber security, the environment and health.
The European University EDUC
The European Digital University (EDUC) will initiate and promote new forms of mobility for students and academic staff within a transnational European entity.
Consortium France-Horn of Africa
Université de Rennes 1's project, "Consortium France-Horn of Africa towards implementation of joint trainings in Ethiopia and exploration towards Kenya has been selected by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and actions will be implemented starting from 2020.
