Academic fields

The University of Rennes 1 organises its training offer around three disciplinary sectors: science and technology, health and human and social sciences.

Sciences, technology

These courses, often referred to as "hard sciences", bring together eleven training components at the University of Rennes 1:

Apart from the IUTs of Lannion, Saint-Brieuc and Saint-Malo and the ENSSAT, most of the science and technology courses are given on the Beaulieu campus in Rennes.

Science and technology represent one third of the enrolment at the University of Rennes 1, i.e. over 8,500 students.

Health

The health courses (medicine, dentistry, pharmacy) are grouped together on the Villejean campus in Rennes. Although the first year of studies is common and includes maieutics, three separate departments manage the training provided in the health sector.

Health students represent a quarter of the university's enrolment, with over 6,400 students enrolled in the 2013-2014 academic year.

Law, Economics, Management, Political science, Humanities and Social science

The humanities and social sciences represent the majority of students enrolled at the University of Rennes 1: 43% of the total number of students, i.e. more than 11,000 students for the 2013-2014 academic year.

But also in the four IUTs (Lannion, Rennes, Saint-Brieuc et Saint-Malo) as well as on Beaulieu campus (Philosophy department).
