Management of the University
Three councils work towards managing the University of Rennes 1. Their members are elected by the University community and comprise representatives of the students, the teachers, the other staff members and outside personalities chosen by the elected members. The three councils are:
- the Conseil d'Administration (CA), made up of 60 members, which is a management board and detains a decision-making authority; it defines the general policy of the institution, approves the budget and makes all important management decisions;
- the Conseil Scientifique (CS, Scientific Council), made up of 40 members, which has an advisory role: it makes suggestions and gives advice on all matters related to research and research promotion;
- the Conseil des Études et de la Vie Universitaire (CEVU, Student affairs and university life council), made up of 37 members, which also has an advisory role; it suggests new educational directions and watches over the quality of the university life.
The University is run by a president elected by these three councils.
The Président is helped by his Bureau, a management team made of elected members.
