Library Community Information Service

Bandeau SCD

Within the local, national and international information networks, the Library Community Information Service (Service Commun de la Documentation, SCD) is committed to providing:

  • the management of all the resources needed by the university community (students, faculty members, researchers, staff): acquiring, cataloging and giving access to the documents;
  • library services: free-access collections, enquiry desk, borrowing, interlibrary loans, study spaces, computer spaces, etc.
  • the development and updating of the network of digital resources available online, purchased or produced by the University;
  • information literacy training in partnership with the academic staff.

Like the University itself, the University Library is a multidisciplinary institution located in various places and towns. It provides resources for the three great fields of knowledge of Rennes 1. It holds the three main libraries (BU) and a federation of about 20 libraries based not only in Rennes, but also in Lannion, St-Brieuc and St-Malo, which all use the same information network.

The Library of the University of Rennes 1 provides its public with 315,000 books (13,000 of which belong to the special collection of rare and precious books), 6,000 periodical titles and 31,330 online documents (more than 20,000 periodicals, 30 databases and about 11,300 e-books).
